A rolling mill has a flat section and also has a groved section to roll out square wire, each grove is slightly smaller then the previous, so if you put a flat piece of metal on the roller thats wider then the groves it will just compress the flat area forcing the metal into the grooves giving it a waffle effect.

Perfect explanation, and correct. Thanks

(The OP's example wouldn't be one of yours, would it?)

The examples I used were done just prior to posting to the thread, it was done to prove my point nothing more, and no it was not mine.

I'll stick with GD. I've checked around and believe it to be true.

It amazes me how hard some people work to disprove other people's finds, but totally go nuts when their finds get a thumbs down in here! (not mentioning any names)

I don't want to burst your bubble but the coin is post mint damage the coin is to thin for a waffle coin and the streaks are going over the rim that;s not a normal feature on a true rejection coin waffled from the mint sorry. Well if you want to send it in and see go aheard you will be very disapointed and wasted money on something instead of spending it on a coin that you really may want ,just some friendly alien advice take it or leave it it;s your money. You don;t have to mention my name i know who you are refereing too. So what your showing is that the way the state quarters are waffled is the ONLY way they were EVER waffled?????? UH HUH. Seems kinda uninformed and narrow minded to me.
