Upload coin photos for a chance to win some coins

I am having a contest to help add additional coin photos to

http://www.mycoinpictures.com/index.php

There will be two (2) winners in this contest.

Winner #1 will get a 2001 Unc set (both P and D). The sets contain the state quarters. Half dollar and SAC with of course the penny (cent), nickel and dime. This will go to the person having the MOST approved numismatic photos.

Winner #2 will be a random pick based on number of approved numismatic photos. So if you submit 1 photo, you have one chance, If you submit 10 photos, you have 10 chances out of how many photos there are. Winner #1 is not eligible for this one. Winner will get a 1990 or 1995 mint set or some other comparable prize.

Not much, but then it is free.

Rules: (Yes there are rules)

1. In order to enter, you will need to register on that site. www.mycoinpictures.com. Registration is free, and I will never sell or give away your email address
2. Photo must be cropped to avoid unnecessary white space. In other words, do not submit a photo where the coin is only a small part of the picture. The coin should take up most of the picture after cropping.
3. Photo must be clear. No fuzzy stuff
4. Photo must be placed in the correct category.
5. Winner will be responsible for PM me your mailing address. I will pay for shipping, etc, yes even to a foreign country (if I can)
6. I will be the final authority on winner eligibility. For example, if your photo is not clear, cropped, etc, then that photo entry may be void.
7. Files should be gif, png or jpg and under 2 meg
8. Contest ends Jan 31st.

Good luck. You can also post any questions in this thread.

Hi, thanks for asking. They way the site is setup, is that you upload pictures and before they are viewable by the public I have to "approve" them. Basically, if you were to upload a fuzzy picture that really was not that good, I would not approve it, therefore it would not count.

OK, Thanks for the explaination on what is approved.

Next question; I just uploaded two pictures (I think) at the same time. Will two pictures come up or do they have to be uploaded seprately ? Also not sure if they are in the right catagory.

Buffalo Gold

Hi ! Morgan,

Thanks for your number 10 rating on the Buffalo Gold at the Bullion catagory. I just wish I could set it beside my computer to view it every day, but alas, it is locked up in my safe deposit box.

Ok cool.
So whats the catch? Do you own the rights to the photo or something once I post 'em?

FG has a good point and I have been wondering also. Once the photo is on the site, would people be able to take it off and use it for their own purpose? Or do you intend to sell copies for coin books or such?

Can the photos be watermarked and still considered for the contest?

Can the photos be removed by the person putting it on at anytime?

Thanks
Jim

What would stop someone from doing that with pictures posted here on cointalk?

you can remove them by replacing them with something else....and he can delete them. pretty sure we keep the rights, but....could be wrong.

I registered but I'm gonna wait until I have some more questions answered about the use of the website in question.
Why couldn't we have just posted our photos right here on CT for this contest. It hasn't been fully explained why we need to uploade unfuzzy, specially cropped shots of our coins. Are they to be amassed and used somewhere else? Why all the restrictions on a "fun" contest?

Nothing of course, but without permission or implied use within the thread would amount to theft of original work, if used for other's personal use. Many have complained when their original photos show up on other's ebay listings. The wrong is on the thief.

My question is do I assign the rights to the photos to someone else by registering and posting on that site. If we do , then that is different, the "wrong" is on me.

I think everyone would like to know who is using their photos and for what purpose. I did check our FAQ and there is nothing there about the Forum's position on photo ownership. Probably any original content could be covered in one statement that it belongs to the original poster which I feel is the unstated position.

Not that my photos are all that great

Oh, I see what you mean. I know MVC though, and I don't think he has any bad intentions here.
