| Ebay Threads
I'm not sure what kind of response this suggestion will bring, but it is something that I've been pondering for quite some time. I've noticed that more and more frequently the threads in the Main Forum are pertaining to ebay in one way, shape or form. Be it a bad seller type thread, a grade question thread, or what have you. Personally I find the countless ebay threads to be a bit cumbersome when trying to read through to find an actual coin thread. When browsing the main forum I end up skipping more than I read as most times I have no interest in them. This is not to say that others don't, just that it seems to make the main forum feel a bit cluttered. I was wondering if there would be any benefit to, interest in and/or possibility of making a separate section or forum strictly for ebay discussions, opinions, etc.
I fully realize that MANY members here deal with ebay in various capacities, and thus enjoy these threads...but I would also think that there are others who don't and may appreciate some delineating of the threads.

Should I use the What's it Worth, the World and Ancient or the Main to post a picture of this thingy I found with a picture of George Washington and some markings in a Non-English script? .
Adding an EBay forum would just add one more choice, unless we passed a rule barring any mention of the word "EBay" in other forums, and that just plain wouldn't work.
One reason that the software won't let you start a thread without specifying a subject is that the subject line will be a guide to other members trying to decide whether or not to read the thread.
Just be picky about what you read. For example, since I have very little interest in errors and varieties, I rarely venture into the Error Coins or Variety Nickle forums, unless a thread title catches my attention.

Unfortunately, for those of us who feel that way about the increasing number of ebay threads, there is no such luxury available. I just find it rather cumbersome to wade through them all to find threads pertaining to something else...ANYthing else some days.

I agree that ebay threads get to be a drag at times - but they do serve a very useful purpose. They help to teach beginners about the dangers they may encounter. Face it - these are the things that matter to them, the things they need & want to know. Ebay is the largest coin buying venue there is and just about everybody here uses it. It needs to be discussed.
I also agree with Roy's comments - we cannot create a new forum section for every single subject. It makes the site too fragmented and difficult to navigate. We already have 11 different sections as it is. I am strongly against creating more.

There's a great forum designed specifically for the purpose of discussing eBay "Coins and Paper Money" issues.
It is easily found by going to the venue's website.
The posters there, are very experienced, and can offer any newbie some of the best advice available.
Check it out, and let's let "Coin Talk" be for talking about coins, not commercial ventures.

Doug, while I appreciate your thoughts and value your opinions...maybe I should have explained further. Afterall, any suggestions made should have included a proposed resolution...and in this regard I guess I was rather vague. Any business case presentation would require as much and I'm afraid I droppped the ball in that regard.
It appears that both the Error forum and the What's it Worth forum are among the least used. At a quick glance each gets only a handfull of posts per day. These could easily be condensed into the Main forum then a new one created for ebay discussions. By the time you add the new # of posts to the Main forum resulting from consolidating the other 2, subtract the # of ebay threads from the Main forum you would be reducing the amount of clutter, streamlining pertinent information AND reducing the overall # of forums by 1 instead of adding 1 if the number of different sections is an issue.
I understand that newbies often venture into ebay...this particular issue could be addressed by placing a link in the FAQ section directing them to the discussion boards ON the ebay website. I'm sure that most people don't even know that they exists and could probably benefit from them greatly. I just can't help but feel that lately this board has become an ebay discussion board as opposed to a coin board.

I will agree with Doug and Roy on the point of not needing another section. That we can surely do without.
