In general, what has CT done for YOU??


I know that, for me, I've seen some of the most beautiful coins I'll see in my entire life on this forum, and LITERALLY everything I know about coins has come from this forum and its incredible members.

So what has CT done for you??

I have learned alot here. Thats the main thing. For the most part I have not changed what I collect because of cointalk or anyone here. But it was only because of a few people here that I became aware of how available ancient coins are. I still collect mostly U.S. stuff. But I have acuired a few interesting ancients over the past year or two. Its mainly just all about education. My time here has made it much less likely that I'll get ripped off on a coin deal.

I have learned alot here in the last 2 1/2 years. I have learned alot more about grading and how to detect counterfeits. My buying habits have changed, I'm much more likely now to buy higher grade/high dollar coins than I would have been at one time, that comes from seeing all of the nice coins here on CT. I couldnt even begin to mention all of the members here thats been an influence to me.

Cointalk, has affected me DRASTICALLY! I joined just over a year ago, and I knew nothing at all.
I collected Canadian small cents and large cents, and Now I stick (mostly) to Lincolns. CT has taught me about cleaning, counterfeit detection, AT and NT, over priced coins, TPG's-the good and the bad,and believe it or not, strengthened some of my ethics.
I didn't know anything before I joined here, and now I feel comfortable walking into a coin shop. Still dont know what Im doin when I get in there
But I feel comfortable

hmm CT is a most interesting place. have manyt friends here some of whom cany buy any coin on the planet but mostly they are humble and good people thats what matters coins come and go as they please

I have only been here on CT for a short time, but it's nice to see that just because you might not have a big collection (yet), or lots of money to buy up all the gold and silver you can get your hands on, that you are not looked down on or left out. I am really enjoying reading and learning from all of you, and I thank you all

CoinTalk has put me into contact with collectors/dealers who have provided endless education. In this hobby I believe that education is the key.

In a way it has affected how I collect as well. I've become more picky, and for the past year haven't bought as many coins as I did the first few years of collecting. I think alot of that has to do with needing to save for other parts in life, but it also has to do where I'm not buying every coin that I see, but saving for the big ones that will fill a spot in my collection.

My collection isn't the best...or close to it, but the guy that built that Richmond Collection said something that I would agree with....."I didn't buy the best there was, but the best I could afford."

I have learned to collect more than just coins that I buy from the US mint. And $600 counterfeit coin detection books are not worth the money. lol

Who on Coin Talk would ever believe that? I from Coin Talk am leaning more towards type sets. I read the other night a dealer said he is more favorable at looking at collectors type sets than complete sets to purchase. He said the reason for this is the type sets are smaller in size (number of coins) than a complete set and are usually in higher grade than a complete set. The only type set I have now is a Jefferson War Nickel Set.

When I first found this forum I was strictly a collector of mint issued proof sets, mint sets, and commemoratives. In that years time the folks here have encouraged me to take off the blinders and not be so narrow in my collecting. I never realized that there was so much out there (in the market place) that was truly accessible as well as affordable.
The background knowledge that you need to truly enjoy the hobby has all been acquired thanks to this site....I'm still learning thanks to the many "coin savy" members who post here. I don't think a day goes by that I don't learn something new on these boards.
