    Bronze Coin Found in Australia

I am trying to find out the origin of this bronze coin. It was found by my mother while metal detecting in Australia, close to Sydney. It was unearthed from the side of the Paramata River in a very old part of town. Can anyone help me identify this coin? I'm going to try and attach images, shot beside a USA Quarter for comparison. The coin is quite heavy, more thick than a quarter. Any help identifying this coin would be most appreciated.

Sorry, but, I am not an expert on these, However, that said:
My gut reaction (having seen other similar pieces) is that it is a fantasy coin.

Also, how did you mother clean this?
I have many dug coins and (especially bronze ones) and never saw one cleaned up that well.

    Welcome to Cointalk.

I agree that it doesn't have "the look" of a real coin found in the manner described. But I'm also not an expert.

Looks real to me...I'm just wondering what an Ancient Islamic coin (looks Islamic) was doing in Australia dirt.

Looks like a fantasy piece to me as well. I'm no expert in ancients though.

Many thanks to all of you who have posted comments on this piece. It helps to have other eyes and experience weighing in on this piece. Its identity still remains a mystery. If it is a production fantasy coin then one would expect there to be many others "out there." As for the cleaning process, I've written to my mother to see if she recalls what she did, if anything, to clean it. That information in and of itself might be helpful in determining the coin's identity. Islamic..., hadn't thought of that one. I'll do some research down that line. Again, thanks all for your input.

    Kind regards,

Dont count it out too soon, for some reason it reminds me of a Celtic imitation of a phillip II of Macadonia coin, the horseman that is Click here to enlarge

Either that or a Celtic...looks to be more like a celtic. I think it's real IMO, but what till one of the ancient experts hit here.
