Coins with holes

I've often felt that coins with holes are a great place for a collector, especially one on a limited budget, to get an otherwise hard to find denomination or date or mintmarked coin for pennies on the dollar. But do holed coins, or should holed coins be the recipient of all the bad press that people put on them and be discounted so significantly that unless the coin is extremely rare it becomes near worthless? How do you feel about holed coins?
I personally have quite a few holed coins to include, holed large cents, a FE, indians, three cent, a jefferson nickel, several half dimes(bust and seated), a bust dime, seated dimes, a 75 cc twenty cent piece, seated halves, and this bust half.

The one I sent you is exactly like that but an 1855 slanted 5's
I was excited when I discovered it in the old box of coins from my Parents of many years ago!
When I found out it value..my heart sank..although a beautiful coin, it had been ruined as far as numismatic concern goes. But to the right collector like yourself..they are a fantastic goal to achieve.
I do hope you enjoy the coin I sent and I also hope that it remains in your collection for years to come!

Thanks Rickie. I will have it for many, many years. Once it arrives I will add it to and post another album this one called Holed coins and y'all can see my whole holed collection.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think The Cave Troll collects holed coins too.

The thing is that unless the coin IS very rare there are typically plenty of unholed specimens available to satisfy the demand.

Damaged coins in general are an interesting backwater of the hobby. They are cheap, and probably rightly so, but affordable for just about any level of collector. Some pretty interesting coins can be acquired for little money. Personally, I'd rather have an 1814 holed bust half than an MS69 modern commemorative, but my collecting habits are probably just as damaged as the coin and are not recommended to the average hobbyist.

thanks to Rickie for my first counterfeit holed coin, I was like a kid in a candy store when I opened it today.
I've currently got a bead on a possible holed 1794 large cent. Would be a great addition to my collection but $50 seems a bit much.

gotta wonder why they had holes. did some guy make a necklace for his girlfriend or wife, or a grandfather make it for a grandchild. to bad you cant do that now lol, I dont know of a woman that would like a necklace "I made" out of a modern 10 cent.

Glad I was born in the 50s , I drilled a SLQ and gave it to my 6th grade girlfriend to go steady with , we went steady all right for about 3 months . LOL .
