Do banks have rolls of circulated coins?

I am collecting state quarters and was wondering if I can just go to the bank and get rolls of quarters to look through. Or do they only have new currency. If the quarters are new and you get a roll would all of them be the same? I would assume that they would be.

Sorry for the noob questions.

Hugh

They should. I always ask if they can give me the ones in the clear plastic rolls. Also, customer service desk at many grocery stores have no problem giving you some rolls.

What about carwashes?!?!? Sure they ain't rolled, but from time to time you can find a keeper.

I found a a few (maybe 10) silver quarters at a carwash...I kept feeding money into the machine untill I was out of small bills.

I maybe got lucky, but my bank handed me 10 new rolls of Arizona D mint quarters in the N.F. String rolls. The best part, I only paid $10 for a $10 roll...

My Mood:
There are nearly 40 billion quarters in circulation.

The issuers rotate these out of storage so that they mostly wear pretty evenly. About half of the oldest quarters are gone because of attrition or there'd be 60 billion. Each year the mint makes a couple billion more and these go right into circulation as well. Sometimes when you ask for rolls at the bank you'll get a BU roll of coins up to three years old. These will all be of the same date and mint mark. Usually, because of the way the coins are handled by the mint and FED, all the coins in a BU roll will have all been minted on just 5 to 8 different sets of dies. This means if there's a variety or gem in the roll there probably will be a few.

I recently came across an unopened roll of new mexico state quarters at work. I almost kept it, but I didnt want to surrender my ten dollars. Immediately after opening them I wish I had kept them. They were absolutely beautiful. I never cared for the state quarters myself but there was something about those coins that caught my eye. With that said the bank where my boss gets her quarters gives us both new and circulated.
