    Thumbs down Frustrated eBayer!!

I am really irritated right now about bidders on eBay not following the payment terms. I clearly state I cannot take credit cards as I have the free personal PayPal account. But people still send me freakin credit card payments that I can't except w/o upgrading my account. This is very frustrating. I had to deny the payment and sent a short note along with it. I hope this individual is understaning at his error because I would hate to get a negative feedback due to his error.

I moved this up here to the main forum. You will find that most people cannot read and understand direction. Don't let it frustrate you Click here to enlarge

It is unfortunate that people do not tend to read an entire auction. And I have seen these same people leave negatives when their payments were refused for not paying with an acceptable method.

We don't take Paypal from International buyers because we have no Paypal protection without a US confirmed address. We have to refund at least 3 payments per week when it could not be more clearly stated in the auction. We even have a link to our website explaining why we can't accept it and still they all act surprised.

On the brighter side, if you do get a negative, you can follow-up with the explanation that the buyer did not follow the TOS and most eBayers know that scenario, so it shouldn't hurt you.

Good luck Click here to enlarge

I know from experience what you are talking about. Although I haven't given up completely on feebay, I have begun to sell most of my extra coins through our local coin club. I don't realize as much (or any) profit, but I don't have to worry about fees, non-payers, scammers, idiots, etc.

Ebay is great for advertising. The ideal situation would be to run a few attention getters on eBay and sell mainly from a private website.

And let's remember that, if all the honest sellers leave eBay, it will be a dangerous place for collectors Click here to enlarge

The only thing I have problems with every-now-and-then is sellers who will not take Money-orders.

I don't use pay-pal nor credit cards and some sellers will ONLY take those two.

I only messed up once and bid on an item that said pay-pal only but that guy said I could back out but before I could somebody else out bid me.

As for you getting NEG's feed-back there is no reason they should give it to you because you said in you item that you can NOT take credit cards..if anybody sould get the NEG it would be them.

Unfortunately, Speedy, the reality of it is that oftentimes the buyers who don't want to take the time read the TOS also tend to be a little on the ....unreasonable side. Click here to enlarge

Very same thing happens to my wife and I all the time.

We sell our extra Colorado Rockies tickets on eBay every summer, and clearly state "We take PayPal, but not credit cards through PayPal." Not only do buyers fail to read the notice, but we had one guy who tried to pay by credit card two consecutive summers.

Having been a teacher, I realize that many people don't read directions. Just something you have to live with.

The reality of the situation, if this is the case in your auctions, is that if you display the PayPal logo with the Credit Card Symbols in the Payment Methods Accepted section of your auction, you are bound by Ebay/PayPal TOS to accept all forms of PayPal payments, including credit cards. It even specifically states that if you will only accept e-check payments that you are not allowed to use the logo in Payment Methods Accepted. If this is the case, you are at fault and if you refuse to abide by it and the bidder is feeling especially feisty and decides to be nasty about it and files a NPS against you, you will be the party found 'at fault'. Hopefully you don't display the PayPal logo with the credit cards so this doesn't apply to you.

I just looked up your Ebay ID and your past auctions and saw that you do indeed display the logo. Regardless if you specify that you only take a certain type of PayPal payment, you are bound by Ebay/PayPal terms of service in displaying that logo to accept all forms of PayPal payment. You are technically in violation of Ebay TOS and such things as this can and have gotten individuals NARU'd before when they were actually reported by multiple individuals for it (A buyer can search items specifically by ones that accept all forms of PayPal payment by displaying that logo, by displaying it, in Ebay's eyes, you are 'spamming' their search results with invalid items). I suggest you read all the terms of service associated with an auction venue and that you are fully aware of all facets of those terms before you choose to sell your goods with that venue (Whether it be Ebay, Teletrade, or Heritage). If a complaint is filed in this case, Ebay will side with the buyer.

With that said, I personally agree with the fact that the buyer should have read all the terms and if they had a problem with them, just reported your listing as a violation so it could get removed instead of bidding on it and insisting to pay with a form of payment you do not wish to accept.

Well, it happened again! Aaaaah!! This time from a buyer in Canada! I am not sure what to do. I could offer to accept a money order but I'm not sure if I can cash a canadian money order here. This is a copy of the invoice I sent him. I feel it is VERY clear.

    Hi,

    Your total comes to $5.35

    My PayPal address is ******************

Please remember I am not able to take credit cards. I can only take payment from existing funds in your PayPal account or a bank transfer. Thanks for bidding and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

    David

On another note, the previous bidder contacted me and will send a money order. I'm glad that worked out.

As for the PayPal logos, they just appear in my listing and I do not know how to prevent them from showing up.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have never sold anything on ebay, but i do buy a lot of things. This discussion brings up a few questions i have been wanting to ask. Does paypal defferentiate between a debit card and a credit card? What are the fees associated with paying by paypal?

There are no fees for the buyer, but the seller who accepts paypal will have to pay a % fee if the buyer uses a credit card. If the buyer uses paypal credits or a direct transfer from a bank account, there is no fee to the seller, which is source of this thread.
