Presidential Oath Dollars?? Your advice

I am relatively new to coin collecting and I have the opportunity to buy an Adams, Jefferson and Madison Presidential Oath Dollars for 80 bucks each. These were avaliable only at the Denver mint. They are graded by ANACS 66 and say 1,000 limted. Is this a good price? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

If these are not privately modified coins, how come they aren't mentioned anywhere on the US Mint's official website?

In other words, IMHO you're looking at something in the same category with colorized coins, counterstamped coins, and tokens. Assuming they're modified real Denver Presidential dollars, they're worth a buck apiece.

I don't know diddly about the "Presidential Oath Dollars", but the first site I found on a net search is selling them for $49.95 each (www.collectorsalliance.com). So regardless of what you think of them as a collector's coin, $80 is TOO much.

i, personally, have never hearrd of "oath" dollars. please be very wary of hype and limited edition coins. also, learn to grade...not to take the numbers on a slab. at $80/ pop...i would look to investing it in education before you purchase anything.
everyone wants your money, so be very cautious w/ it. i would listen to other commentary from experienced numismatists before trading the money for coins. only my humble opinion.

I saw a photo of one of these. It looks like a regular dollar coin inserted into a silver-colored metal ring with the oath printed on it. So it's more like one of the "lucky penny" items you occasionally see than a unique coin.

At least that's what it looked like.

Thanks for the advice. 80 bucks does seem to much. I do know for sure they came from the Denver mint and were only avaliable if you phsycially went there. I think I will try to get him down to 40 and probably pick them up. They have been graded by ANACS and encased so I know that cost him some. I just didn't know how much the coins sold for at the mint, . Any other advice would be welcome.

I'd stay away from them , can't find them on the US Mints site , most likely struck by some private mint calling itself the Denver Mint . Beware . Probably a gimmick .

I have been to 3 other sites where coin101 was touting the benifits of the presidential oath dollar. Don't buy into the hype of one person. Collect coins for your reason, not some new age viral marketing technique. I feel it is a poor person who uses this type of marketing. I'm not saying don't buy them, I'm just saying don't buy them for the hype. It won't last long.

These are not Gimmiks they are authintic coins from the Denver mint. That much I know for certain. I have researched them and found out that much for sure. They produced 1,000 of them and you could only pick them up at the Denver Gift shop, they did not offer them online. I can buy the Adams, Jefferson and Madison. The guy at the shop does not have a Washington and I can't even find one on-line. The cheapest I have been able to find them is for 49.95, with the help of someone on here. Not many people know about them, so that makes me think if I can get the price right they are worth buying.

Well like I always say I learn something new here evryday , if they're only making 1000 sounds like a good buy .

These very rare coins are a good example of how the earlybird gets the worm. 1800 of 3000 total coins were acquired, slabbed by ANACS and presented for sale by HSN. These coins (except for trace amounts) literally vaporized over 30 minutes of airtime. Were they an experiment? Probably. Were they the forefront of a new numismatic product line at the Mint? I doubt it.
However they do exist in very, very limited numbers and if anyone can get their hands on one, PUT IT AWAY !
I really can't think of another numiz comparison, hmmm, the cheerios Sac Dollar? limited to what, 2000? I forget, but the mind races...
Give it time, keep an eye out in Coin World, they are usually on top of things!
Oh, before I forget, if anyone out there has the George Washington Oath coin give me a holler, I need it to complete my collection.
