Anyone have any ideas what these are or there worth, I have more but just to give you an idea here are a few and some cards that go with them. Thanks

First off welcome to the forum.

I am not familiar with these but if from the USPS I doubt pure silver. Perhaps sterling or better bet would be pewter.

Take a good look at the cards they came with for more clues.

Thanks for the welcome, and your response, The cards say pure silver and the coins are serial numbered on the side like the cards say, so I'm not sure.

Seems that we're narrowing it down. Now we know it at least has SOME silver in it. Could be silver plated but I'm thinking Sterling.

By the side I assume you mean edge.

Check a few out and look for any or all of the following:

.925
Sterling
.925 Fine

These would all indicate that the medals "coins" are 92.5% silver.

I have been working in my local coin shop for the past few months and been a customer there for years. I've seen (and on occasion bought) a lot of odd stuff.

I have NEVER seen these before and they are pretty cool. Keep digging and let me know.

Looks like .999 Fine Silver, these were given to me from my grandmother that originally belonged to my grandfather who passed. He was a postmaster for many years here in PA, and the post office burned down. These were dug out of the ground and salvaged which is probably why they have a rugged appearance. I still can't find anything on them but I am looking, any ideas yet anybody?

Weird, I guess if the cards say they are silver they are, but they don't look like it to me to be honest with you. Or, that could just be the way they toned over the years. Nice coins, either way. BTW, welcome to the forum!

Tioga, about 10 mins from the NY border in the middle of the state. Where is a good place to find out what these are and what else is in the set?

Hi banthafodder and welcome to coin talk. Just my opinion, but I think that USPS did not issue those medallions. I saw the initials WDA on the reverse of one of the medals. The initials WDA stands for W. D. Ashford the designer of the medals. I hope that helps a bit.

Examine them carefully and see if you can find an "F" mint mark. They are definitely the sort of thing that the Franklin Mint used to put out.

This is hard to say though, there might be some medal collectors of such and prices can possibly vary. I mean, a lot of people use mailing services and I would find it difficult to believe that no one has interest in such medallions. Not to forget to mention that there are a lot of people employed in the mailing service sector. All you need is two people to fight over the price and you win.

Least you know that they are worth silver bullion and it's at a good price at the moment.
