Jefferson's Eyelashes ?

Garanteed to be of interest ONLY to Jeff variety NUTS... After looking thru a box of Jeffs, I went back for a closer look at some that I had set aside for further study. I noticed that many of the 2001-Ps showed Jefferson with rather long eyelashes. So I looked thru some other dates and found the same anomally from other Dates and mints.... Here are some photos titled w/ date nd mintmarks.

********* First-- WITH THE LONG EYELASHES***********8

2001-P

Another different coin dated 2001-P

Heres a 2004-P

And a 2001-D

And a 1997-D

**************WITHOUT EYELASHES******************

1988-D

1973-D

And a 1980-P

I hope this is worth the time you spent looking at them. I cannot guess the cause of the anamolies. The eyelash varieties span over 8 years but share common characteristics..

I have seen the same thing and never paid it much mind! I don't think that this was an approved design change and was probably due to one or more of the Mint employees with too much time on their' hands!

Might be a weak spot on the dies? Looks like a small die break to me.
