| Benson Mercury Dime?
I wanted to get some opinons on what would be a better collectable deal. Should I get a Mercury dime thats from the "Benson" collection but doesn't have Full Bands, or should I get a regular Mercury dime that has Full Bands?
Thanks in advance,
Ed

Personally I would select the Dime with full bands, But then thats me.I have a mind set toward a full band set as much as possible anyway.
Hello ED and welcome !!!
There are many things that make one Item more collectable than the other, and when this question is asked it is hard not to answer it from a personal view point,
I have been putting together a FSB set for the last few years, so naturally the FSB dime would be more collectable to me than the Benson dime,
someone else will tell you that the Benson would be the more collectable.
So what we have here is, it is really up to what (YOU)
as the collector are looking for and what your goals for your collection are.
Either one would make a nice addition to a Merc.collection but collector preference plays a major role in the decision.
again welcome !!!
Rick

Thank you for the welcome Rick,
I appreciate your imput. I'll probably go with getting one with Full bands, mostly because I can get it as MS66 and the Benson's I've seen are all MS65.
I just never heard of Benson before and didn't know if I was missing something.

Rick,

If you are looking to buy your coins on eBay, I hope that you are very cautious. This is a statement I make to any new member of the forum that buys on eBay and in no way intended to question your ability or knowledge. We have just seen too many people get burned on eBay and I like to warn new people when they join the forum.
I also would like to see a pic of the dime when you get it.

Susanlynn pretty much covered it, Im in agreement with her post .Good advice !!
Just keep in mind all full band dimes are not equal, Look for nicely rounded bands with no nicks abrasions or flat spots.and a very clear division of the bands .
Do not hesitate to ask for info on the coin before you bid, even more pictures if you want them, if the seller refuses pass on the coin ,, its your money!

I would take a full-band Merc over a lesser one from a famous collection any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Thank you all for you info, I really appreciate it
I'm going to try and post the pic of the back of the coin I'm looking at, maybe someone can tell me if its a good strike.
I've been ebaying since 1998 without any problems, so hopefully this won't be a bad deal. Anyway the guy has no negative feedback.

There are many sellers pushing off junk coins with great feedbacks. Don't view the feedback as the perfect way to judge a seller. With the way that feedback works, it is often what is not said that counts. Look at what the seller is selling first. If many questionable coins or bad slabs are being sold, stay away from the seller regardless of how positive his feedback rating is.

Benson is a European that auctioned coins in New York 4 or 5 years ago. I have one of his dimes. It is nice,w/full strike,& good eye appeal, but no full bands. Paid $40 for it, MS67. 1945-P. To find out more, GOOGLE " THE BENSON COLLECTION"
