Local coin auction prices paid

Hello everyone,

I attended a local coin auction a couple of weeks ago and thought I would share with everyone the prices that were paid. The coins were graded by someone not affiliated with the auction (so we were told).

This was their third auction this year and I had a great time. Can't wait until the next one.

Couple of these have no prices. I was to slow or they were to fast moving on to the next coin for me to write down the amount....

I would like to see some pictures of the coins to see if the grading was close. A few of the prices look reasonable, but only if the grade was as posted.

I'm curious. What is "Tor"? (Toned original?) What is "BUT"? (Brilliant Uncirculated Toned?)

Here is #91 the 1854 Seated Half. They had it graded as VF/XF. Also #110 a 1885 Morgan that was graded MS63. These were the only ones I was able to buy. The Seated Half is my first. Think I overpaid just a bit but I do like the coin.

#15 (no picture) was also a 1885 Morgan graded as MS64 that sold for $55. Comparing #15 and #110 before the auction I thought that #110 was a much nicer coin.

Nice coins, but is that 1854 Seated Half really VF/XF?

I think it's a push to make that half an F, let alone XF.. there's almost no facial features left.

I do not think is XF - I think F maybe at best VF. Not an expert on those. As for overpaying - if you are happy with the coins then you did not overpay. I think the Morgan grade is pretty accurate - it looks like it is in the 63 range. Nice coins by the way. I like seated coinage also, but I do not have any halves yet.

agree, the grading is loose. I don't see a full Liberty on the half, which you kinda sorta need for a Fine ( or at least used to), so F-12 is a stretch,IMO.

This sounds awfully cheap:

8. 1856 Seated Liberty Quarter (MS61) $90.00

that seated liberty half dollar is HORRIBLY overgraded. It is a very weak FINE. Sorry.
