| I love me!!! (or n00b here)
Well, first Id like to say I'm steve and I'm a neophyte collector. Actually I hate to describe myself as a coin collector for two reasons. First of all, I get tired of dissapointing my friends and co-workers by telling them theis "insert coin here" is only worth face...and being describes as a collector has connotations of expertise, which I don't feel like I have.
OK so about about my hobby. My father was a "collector". As a young child I learned how to sort through the family restraunts daily take looking for coins he needed.
Through my teen years and while I was in the Army, I forgot about coins...women and beer proved so much more interesting at the time. However after my medical discharge in 2003 I took a part time job at a local pawnshop. Through someone elses misfortune, a 1889-O Morgan re-ignighted my passion. I'm no longer working at that pawnshop so my incredable deals are now far and few between. FWIW, not all pawnbrokers are dishonest.
But I digress. About my collection. I like Silver Eagles (Hmm I should have looked to see if this is the type of forum where the ASE is not considered a real coin) an clad mint sets. My ASE "collection" is current and I'm working backwards on my mint sets (finally in the 50's).
I am also working on assembling a set of one of each major type (mid to low grades) I'm not "investing" or actively hunting, just snapping up anything that strikes my interest at the moment
My real passion though is for Silver Commeratives. While every coin has its own story, the commeratives mark a specific period or event and that is what I find fascinating.
/Oh and one more thing...I'm a sucker for the "Special Slab Marketing Gimmick" (ie PCGS w/ "celeb" signatures) or something that is attractively toned.

i dont think anyone here considers ASE's as NOT real. They most certainly are real, they have legal tender status and therfore are coins. I would never spend one but they are real!
Welcome to the forum always glad to see new faces

To me, ASE's are just bullion. Even though they are technically legal tender, a "coin" is something that has been put into circulation. You'll never find an ASE that's not high MS grade unless someone has abused it.
But that's just my opinion. |
