Hello

Hey guys I really love this place. I find a lot of great info. here. I figure I would take some time to introduce myself.

My name is Chris and I have been collecting coins since my grandfather passed along his collection of Indian head cents he saved from when his family had a deli in the 20's and 30's. Ever since I have been fascinated by coins and the history behind them.

I am now 25 and do professional archaeology, which allows me to come across a few old coins here and there. The best thing I have found was 1793 Liberty cap cent, torn in half probably to make a half cent worth of copper. It was in the fill of an 1803 house foundation, in NJ.

I collect all kinds of stuff today. I like hard times tokens, early commemoratives ( I have great 1921 pilgrim I'd like to post soon), and now I'm getting into currency a bit. I justify my hoarding of all types of coins and currency as collecting by calling it a type collection .

Any way one quick question about ebay etiquette. I purchased two items from the same seller and asked them to combine shipping. They didn't respond and sent me an invoice for the items separate. I asked them to mail them in two packages, with no response. If these items come in the same package is it ok to leave negative feedback? It seems like they are just profiting on the shipping.

Anyway thanks for your time everyone and its nice to be here.

Hi Chris welcome to CoinTalk, quick thing about the coin in the foundations of the house that sort of thing was quite common practice, it was thought to bring good luck to the building. Another example was to leave a coin above a lintel As for the Ebay question personaly that sort of thing bugs me, but I have to ask if the items themself were ok? If so then I woudnt leave neg but I certainly would comment on the shipping and leave appropriate star rating. I hasten to add this is just my opinion LOL

I'd leave a neg if they are shipped together.

Some powersellers need to remember the meaning of customer service... taking your money and not responding to emails is just rude. If they ship the items together, they are stealing from you.

Give them a neg to warn the next guy, and to help convince them to clean up their act.

Welcome to the forum.

I have the same situation you do with a non-coin purchase. Two invoices came, I politely asked for a combined invoice, didn't get one... but get this... I got a positive feedback before I even paid! I suspect I have a confused seller on my hands here. (Not a powerseller.)

I ended up paying the invoices separately, which means Paypal took a bigger bite out of the seller's proceeds. However, I paid $10 total shipping and the postage on the plain envelope was $2.80.

I'm thinking I may do a positive but will explain what happened in it-- i.e. "items rec'd OK but shipping not combined" and I won't be awarding five stars for shipping cost either.

Anyway... glad to have you! Congrats on the "half cent" find. Did you get to keep it or did it become part of the findings from the dig?

welcoem to the forum... as asked, please post pics of your finds

as for Ebay. i would leave positive feedback IF the items were as described and shipped in a timely manner. If his auctions did not say he would combine, he has no obligation to do so ... except for the good customer service. But with that said, i would certainly leave low remarks/scores in the extra comments section. I dont think it would be right to neg him for that.questiosn like combining shipping, if not stated int he auction, should be asked prior to bidding IMHO.
