UK Cash Register Finds

I work at a Sainsburys store and fortunately I have an understanding with my boss whom agrees than I can take any interesting coin from the till I find as long as I replace it.

Anyhoo, I thought I'd scan in and share with you what I had found.

As is my understanding; coins from the over sea territories of the UK are not legal tender in the UK, however coins from the UK are legal tender in the over sea territories. This rule is not really observed though as even from the bank I have been given coins from over sea territories.

A variety of differnt £1 coins and more...

None of these are particularly rare, but 1million Gibraltar pound coins in 5billion british pound coins could be seen as rare.

Very nice! Was that halfcrown (?) given as the appropriate change?

Not my "cup of tea" being a U.S. collector in the U.S. but it's always nice to have a boss that understands. I've nailed some pretty nice stuff over the years that way.

There is a little part in the cash register specifically for foreign coins to be place, this is mainly filled with euros or eastern european coins.
However sometimes I discover coins such as the half crown and others in the little compartment. They must have been accepted by someone else only to be realised later as being out of date currency.

Also collected with no need to replace them are dozens of foreign coins from all over the world, including state quarters posing as 10 pences or Spanish 100 ptas posing as pound coins.

I prefer finding coins to buying them...it's cheaper

Nice little treasure trove of goodies you have there. There is nothing like plucking fun stuff out from circulation.
