Thought this was an interesting coin for a topic. I Dont think is a prototype. I would think this is a Fantasy coin. Am I wrong?

It's a fantasy piece. On the reverse it says "NON DOLLAR" instead of "ONE DOLLAR".

Hmmm.

From the looks of it, the e-bay seller bought one from the Daniel Carr website and has just turned a $20 profit. I assume it is a real piece that came from that website......

This is really interesting. I have all the Sacs. I didn't know the Carr site existed. One of those would be a nice and relatively cheap addition/conversation piece to add to the album.

Thanks for the links!!

It's a fantasy AND a prototype. The reverse design was one of the finalists in the compotition for the Sac dollar, the obv was another one of his designs that didn't get very far. The auction is wrong thouh, while several designs were submitted to congress in coin form, that was in 1999 and this was not one of them. Carr made them later.

I don't think prototype would be the correct word to use, the word prototype implies it is the first of something that is actually produced in quantity - and it isn't. I suppose fanatsy would be appropriate in this case though.

Back when the program first started up they used the correct word then, they called them concept dollars and that's what they were. But one made 3 years later, I can't see that as being anything but a fanatsy piece.
