Paypal denial REVERSED...I win

I am happy to say, leaving it to Mrs. Aj was the proper thing to do.

A fax on the law firm letterhead and 20 minutes on the phone got our claim reversed, but there are some details you folks should know, to protect yourselves in the future...

1. At sellers insistance, I paid a Paypal " money request " rather than an Ebay "invoice".....very important

Paypal considered the transaction " non Ebay " and refused to look further into the claim after seller had proven delivery. In this case, package could have been an empty box for all Paypal cared.

2. Once a claim is made and closed for non receipt, as I did, you cannot change it and reopen to a not as described.

3. Women have more patience and tact, at least mine does.

Now, the catcher:

Ebay and Paypal both consider this reversal of $$$ a "courtesy refund" and NOT IN ANY WAY a reflection of sellers actions. Seller will keep the money and go unpunished or reprimanded. Ebay is not at all interested in the bait and switch or the 4% surcharge......cutting fraud hurts their bottom line.

End of Story.....
I got my money back 100%, seller not even a smack on the wrist and will be allowed to continue to charge 4% by avoiding the Ebay invoice...

Dont fall for this trick folks..learn from my mistake.
Aj

Congratulations!!

First, I will bet your "courtesy refund" was an effort to placate you so it would not go any further.
Second, they have just listed their new auction. Thought that you might want to bid on some.

it is very good you got the refund. It does stink in that Ebay does not really care about fishing out fraudulent sellers like the one you found. In this case, they were wrong in not looking into the matter. But in Ebays defense, they have a billion transactions a day crossing their doors. I am sure they get a thousand complaints about dealers NOT delivering the correct item, when in fact they might have. Trying to weed through all the complaints against sellers to find the non fradualent complaints against honest sellers must be a daunting task. As a seller Jack, i am sure you can see both sides of the coin here.

In this case, you were the honest buyer, and the seller was the bad guy. In this case, its too bad Ebay didnt look into it a bit further .. i am sure they would have caught a stinky fish swimming in their own back yard!

So if I want to start using Paypal I learn from other's experiences, divorce my wife and marry a lawyer? (Sending her to law school is not in my budget).

Glad it worked out Jack but just too many loopholes you listed and betting they'll come up with more.

Well, the wife said they were very apologetic and considered the entire affair a big mistake on their part ( so they say )

They were however, unwilling to even acknowledge the fact that this was anything other than a courtesy refund....thats what troubles me.

I pay the bay about $300-$600 a month in fees, and another pile to Paypal I guess, so we are a good customer, especially since the new year, sales have really taken off.....my main catagory is smokin hot in the hobby

The seller got off scott free, Ebay did not want to hear it at all that a wrong was commited, and did not care the least that a coin switch happened, intentional or otherwise, and refused to do anything about the 4% surcharge. In other words, did Ebay care about the buyer? NO, only the fee payer, which in this case was the seller, AND me.......Did Ebay care about fraud? NO

My opinion of Ebay is very low, but I will continue to use them as a sell venue ( cheap advertising....I changed my store name to "blah blah dot com", ( THEY made me spell "dot" ) and will be more careful when buying. I have actually stopped buying so much on Ebay, relying on trade contacts and shows more now, it is safer.

Yep,

It happens sometimes.

Honestly I can see why Jack uses Paypal and so many others as well. If the volume is there it's practically a necessity and a darn shame at that.

Nowadays I see comments about "I should have known better" the guy doesn't take Paypal". This is a direct result of scammers so Paypal is the "cure". We all know the real "cure" is not getting scammed in the first place.

I plan on starting to sell more in the near future. Not a large scale deal but more. I'll stick with my usual methods of payment for now. If someone is "afraid" of my refusal to Paypal it's their loss.

As for bidding I rarely do unless I know the person or know someone that does. I will take the risk on occasion and it's just that a risk.

The greed machine has really torn up a good thing.

Congrats Jack and props to the Missus! Nice to see that truth prevailed. Does this reversal change your view of eBay?

Congrats Jack, glad to hear all is okay now! What was the seller's ebay name, if you don't mind me asking?
