I was bidding on a complete Jefferson Nickel set in a Dansco Album on ebay. I decided I wouldn't pay over $90 (is that too high to begin with?).

Anyways, bidding ended at over $125. Then I just got a second chance offer saying I can buy it for $90.

The set includes a BU 1950 D. The other coins range from circulated to uncirculated. Pretty vague, huh?

I am having second thoughts now but I've seen this auction go 3 other times for over $100.

The 1950D BU sells for $22 by itself at my local coin shop! That is the key to the set, right? The other nickels aren't worth that much.

I'm also leary of second chance offers. Sure, some are honest but there's a chance that the seller has a shill bidder and no one else overbid him, leaving you as the highest real bidder. Knowing this, the seller comes back to you.

In this case the seller has acceptable feedback (to me) but $90 seems a bit too much. The Dansco book is about $20 and most of the nickels can be found by searching rolls. That can be a fun way to build this set, leaving the silver war nickels and a few others to buy at the end.

About all I can say is this - if the set was worth $90 to you when you bid on it then it should be worth $90 to you now

Well, the nickel set was worth $90 at the time I bid on it because I was only going to buy the nickels. After spending $107.50 on Kennedy Halves later that day the nickels aren't worth as much simply because I didn't budget for 2 purchases. Hope this clears up your confusion

I looked thru his past auctions and the Nickel set in the Dansco shows up several times and sold for $73.50 in one case. I would just watch his auctions for it to come up again, especially if your not in a position to spend the cash today. If your not in a hurry, wait for a shot at a better price.
