U.S. Mint. How bad can a business be?

The good old mint just ceases to amaze me with how bad a business can be and still survive. Since I hadn't received my ASE proof that I have on subscription since 1/10 I decided to call the mint to find out the problem.

After about a 10 minute wait I finally get the service dept. She tells me it was shipped on 1/10 and when I tell her I haven't received it she then tells me the subscription was placed on 1/10. I ask why they haven't shipped the subscription order since the website shows they are available? She then proceeds to tell me I won't get one this year. When I ask why, she states, "Since they were already made when you placed your order/subscription you have to wait until 2009 before you will receive one". ??!!!??? I give up!!!

She asked if I wanted to order one and I told her to just forget it. It's becoming much easier to get them on the secondary market than to purchase them directly from the mint. I then cancelled all of my subscriptions with the mint and decided I would rather pay more and get them from a dealer who actually appreciates and wants my business.

I think they're currently too busy making a bunch of junk that nobody wants or will use to pay any attention to ventures that may make them money. Typical government institution.

Here's what it says on the US Mint website :

"American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are one of the world’s most popular coins. The United States Mint issues these coins yearly, and with your enrollment today, you will receive the 2009 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin as your first coin."

(emphasis theirs, not mine)

Sorry about the trouble, but you can get what you wanted. Seems she offered it to you.

I wonder if that is what it stated back in January.

Getting it isn't the problem. OMO I fail to understand why they couldn't honor a subscription that was placed at the first of the year for in-stock items.

I haven't ordered anything from the mint in years. Actually the last mint product I got was 2006 Silver Proof sets.

From 03 on I got all of mine at the local shop. He orders heavy and would sell to me at a whopping dollar over mint issue price when they arrived.

Well worth a buck to NOT have the problems as well as getting to inspect before I bought.
