| Hey from San Francisco! New to CoinTalk
Hi -
I'm new to CoinTalk and recently got back into coin collecting after 30 years. I started to collect coins when I was a kid and lost interest. You can tell by my avatar what drew me away.
Then I fell back into it when my folks showed up to New Years Eve dinner with two duffle bags of US silver and other assorted old coins. In just two short months, I've purchased five Whitman albums, a case of 2x2 plastic slabs and find myself on rainy days sorting through 20 rolls of pennies (in a portable sorting box I made in the garage) while my wife knits and daugther plays on the Wii.
I think I have a problem...Its good to have an addiction where you are actually saving money...
I'm eager to contribute the best I can, learn and look forward to meeting some of you!
Stan

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I ended up spending the rest of New Years Eve and until 4am going through all of the coins. There were over 150 Morgan Dollars in the bags, along with a few hundred Peace, Franklin and Kennedy Silver Halves. Sadly there were no CC's in that Morgan mix.
The most interesting story were about those Morgans. My Grandfather worked in Vegas in the early 30's when it just got started up. He felt setting aside Morgans and silver dollars was a good way to "save" money for his family. That's how it all came to me that one night.
But I have to tell you. After a hard's day work, the most therapeutic and calming activity is going to the bank and handing the teller a Hamilton, grabbing 20 rolls of pennies and sitting in front of the TV and sorting through them! Damn that's fun. Found a 1919 and a 1920 wheatie in the last batch. It's great , cheap fun.
BTW, my 11 y/o is collecting state quarters now and we've convinced her to set aside a portion of her allowance to buy Silver Round. Now she is interested in collecting uncirculated and proof presidentials. What are your feelings about collecting Presidentials?
Thanks!
Stan

welcome. Presidential dollars will never be worth much. Much like the state quarters, everyone is collecting them. Supply and demand drive prices. Yerars down the road, there will be SO many of the coins easily available - it will keep prices down for a few hundred years

Prez dollars won't ever be worth a lot but collecting them can be a great educational experience. You should go to the ANA's web site and take their Presidential Quiz.

We just got back from our local grocery store. We paid in cash and the change turned out to be 76 cents. The cashier ran out of loose pennies in her drawer and was contemplating breaking into a new roll. Before she did she asked, "Did you want your penny?" My wife looked at me while I said, "Yes please... I do".
My wife rolled her eyes, shook her head and mumbled, "You change who$e".
