IMO a good, consistent point light source is crucial to good, consistent grading. I strive to look at the obverse & reverse in random orientations for a few seconds and then apply my first impression grade to the coin. I then look at the obverse of the coin more closely with the naked eye & decide if I need to go up or down a point. I then use a 7x to look at the entire obverse again asking myself if I need to go up or down a point. At this point, I'm pretty sure I have my grade & I look at the reverse under the 7x magnification. The reverse won't necessarily get me to bump-up my grade but it can certainly be neutral or negative to the grade in my mind. Great post & look forward to seeing it again in the future.
