I'm new at coin collecting and ordered the booklet "Collecting America's Coins: Beginner Basics." from the US Mint page. The pamphlet describing coin collecting and the certificate of authenticity slide out of the packet quite easily. However, the folder holding the coins appear to be glued to the top inside of the packaging--and they WON'T come out. For those of old enough to remember, it's like a record album--the record itself is in the paper sleeve, but the sleeve won't come out of the cardboard album. Is this unusual? From a collector's point of view should I leave the set as it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know anything about the book you describe. A good book to get for starting out would be The Official Red Book A guide Book on United States Coins by R.S. Yeoman, it'll give you lots of information about about the U.S. coinage.

Sounds like a drop of glue used to seal the box got on the book/pamphlet. I would try cutting open the box so I could find where the drop of glue is and free the book/pamphlet.

I just bought a new cordless drill. When I tried to slide the soft case from the cardboard box it would not budge. When I opened the other end of the box I found a drop of glue (from sealing the box end) that got on the case and held it to the box. No big deal.

Looking at the US Mint web site, it sounds like the coins are designed be left in the book. You can, however, remove them if you want to, uncirculated and proof sets are often opened by collectors so the individual coins can be graded by a service or the coins can be placed in an album or holder. Although, I would caution you to leave them in the original packaging if you do not have a specific storage plan for the coins after you remove them.
