World Gold Coin Referrence material?

Since many of you know that I am expanding my interests into the World Gold coinage, I am looking for good suggestions on reference material.

One that was recommended was Standard catalog of World Gold Coins by Krause and Clifford. I would appreciate any other suggestion on books that fall under the must have catagory.

Krause only goes back to 1600 - that leaves many coins out; too many in my opinion. The bible, in this case, is Gold Coins of the World - From Ancient Times To The Present 7th Edition by Arthur L. & Ira S. Friedberg.

But understand - both of these books will do little but help you to identify a given coin and learn only the most basic information. Quite often - the values listed in both books is of little use.

What GDJMSP said: Friedberg. Prices, as you know, are not what the catalogs say. Friedberg, however, is the more complete reference for identification. The family has been at it for two generations now. Art also represents foreign Mints in the US markets, Israel, for instance.
