Thread: indian head penny

I have an 1880 indian head penny where the motto seems to be doubled, but it looks like it is outlined on both sides of the letters and they are raised up the same level of the regular motto. Is this the normal way that they minted this coin or is it possibly a double die? I have been looking at other indian heads, different dates though, and they don't appear that way. I'm not able to post a pic, but based on my description does anyone have any opinions on this, maybe someone who has some expertise with indian heads?

It sounds like "Longacre doubling".

Name give to the Indian CENTS for the doubling (and for other designs) that occurred on coins with Longacre's designs.
Not true doubling.

Does it have a die clash mark around the E in one and N in cents? This with the liberty doubling would be a snow-1 according to my book. The only variety mentioned(or of note) for 1880.
