Amazing 1/2 Dollar Find -- What are the Kennedy Key Dates?

I got $70 in half dollars at the bank today, and what an amazing find! Two rolls were full of all 90% Kennedys, Franklins, and Walking Liberties!!

For the clad Kennedys, I'm saving one of each date that I don't already have.

Are there any key-date Kennedys I should hang on to, or are they just worth 50 cents (they're all in circulated to lightly circulated condition)?

P.S. It goes without saying that the silver Kennedys are worth hanging on to.

Geat score,i got lucky about 2 months ago 3 20$ rolls,also 64 JFKs,franklins and walkers.
I know there are a couple of key date clad JFKs worth keeping (65-70 40% SILVER)and 2001 and newer.

There were no silver-clad coins. Just 90% silver and 0% silver.

You might consider keeping lightly circulated halfs if they are nicely struck and damage free of dates like '86, '82, '83, and the early '90's Denver issues. Really there are several other dates you won't see nice very often. when it coincides with dates that are bad in mint sets and rolls then they might be a keeper. Perhaps '71, '73-D, '74, '77, and '78.

Again, I'm referring only to well made examples with a minimum of wear. Watch for the '74 DDO.

I wouldn't sit on a large numbers of these especially since you can still get nice uncs for very little premium in the mint sets. Everything you save becomes less valuable over time because of inflation so don't save it unless you're confident it's worth it.

What about the 40% that were minted from 1965-1969? I would also watch out for the 1970-D

There were quite a few 1964 Kennedys in beautiful condition, the others had some tarnishing.

The copper-nickel clad (0% silver Kennedys) were not in any special condition. Also let me re-iterate: there were no silver-clad Kennedys in the rolls I received (I know they exist).

What does "DDO" stand for, and what should I look for on the "1974 DDO"?

There are 8 1974s. What should I look for to determine a "double-die obverse"?

There is strong doubling on TRUST for the '74 DDO. You mention 8, I only know of 2 - the '74-D and '74-S. There are other varieties but they are not DDOs. You can read a bit about them - HERE

I meant to say that there were 8 1974s in the rolls I bought. Thanks for the info. None of them seem to be DDOs.
