No, I don't think so, it goes back to 2001, they've been doing them for a long time.

I would like to remind everyone that they are not stickers which are applied to the coin. They (the holograms) are actually milled 3-microns deep into the highly polished surface of the coin. Not sure how they do it but it wears out a lot of dies I understand.

I WAS NOT trying to start a battle. So sorry.Thank you for explaining.

LOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOL - That's what I say! At least as a result of this forum I have a better appreciation of why...

Ben - Very Nice Coins - It's amazing that they are able to achieve that effect without adding something to the surface. I love the theme - as I'm sure everyone already knows .

Thanks for posting this. I checked them out and not only decided to buy one for myself, but you gave us the idea for a birthday gift for my father-in-law who is tough to buy presents for.

There have been holographic coins going back to 2001 as per one of the previous posts, but didn't the "Tall Ships" series begin in 2005?

I'm sorry, Ben, but I don't care for the coin as a work of medallic art. To fill up almost the entire field with sails is boring to me. I'm not even sure it's art. Of course all coins of the British Commonwealth have been damaged for decades by the requirement of having Liz's mug on the obverse.

But Ben, if you like it, that's all that matters.

Gunsmoke, not every British Commonwealth country has the portrait of the reigning British monarch on their coins. The current portrait on the Canadian coins looks very terrible,in my view.

Canada is a very loyal British Commonwealth member state,& the monarchy is an essential part of the Canadian identity in the same way that it is part of the New Zealand identity.

Aidan.

Thanks for your take on the coins. I respect your opinion and will continue to collect in the ways which make my collection unique.

Take Care
