In the past bought a bunch of Morgan's/peace dollars/and various other silver coinage primarily for bullion/melt value purposes. Didn't care if cleaned. Now my interest has changed. Pretty sure what I'm about to show has been cleaned but curious what group consensus is:

I'll go out on a limb and say the Morgan was over dipped and the Peace is just well worn.....

Hard to tell from those pics.

    I think both are cleaned.

I'm new to this game so what are the signs of cleaning?
Some things I think are answers:
A bunch of scratches going in the same direction, too shiny like polished metal, and dirt or grime accumulated around lettering or other fine details of the coin.

If a coin is washed in - distilled water, or acetone, or xylene, or a commerical coin dip - has that coin been cleaned ?

I do not see how you answer any other way but to say - yes, it has been cleaned.

But that is not the answer that is being searched for in this thread, now, is it ?

I would say the peace dollar cleaned and the morgan over dipped. Though the morgan might pass as not cleaned but if i was buying it would try to get at cleaned price :D

Cleaned as in cleaned price or damaged. Would you say both are melt or have value above melt?

    Value in their intrinsic sense.

the 1900 should fetch a few dollars over melt as it is in very nice condition XF maybe even an AU slider and seems to be something going on with the M in unum. Might be a VAM though with over 60 for that date/mint I wouldn't try to ID it from pics.

The peace your not likely to see anything more then melt
