Thread: My Local Walmart Self Checkouts do NOT asspet IKEs

Well, I tried it, and it failed, but that was what I expected, and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. What happened was, I inserted the Ike, and it did not register, and it did not reject, either, so I put a few halves in, to try to push the Ike through the machine. The halves all went through and registered as usual, but the Ike got jammed up somewhere in the machine. I told the self checkout operator that I had put an Ike dollar in the machine, and it was neither accepted, nor rejected (I thought I was going to lose an Ike at first, but luckily the second person that opened up the machine, found the Ike), and the first person was like "Whats an "Ike" dollar?" and I said "One of those big old Eisenhower dollar coins", and the person said, "You mean a half dollar?" and I said "No, these machines accept halves. I'm talking a big dollar coin" then the one guy found the Ike and said "Oh, here it is" and I said "Thanks, and I'm glad that you guys's self checkouts accept halves, because I have been looking for a machine that accepts halves forever", and I told them that the machines also take the small dollar coins and $2 bills. (Dang it! I should have asked these managers if there was any way they could set their coin and bill dispensers to dispense these two denominations as needed. Oh well, theres always next time.

All in all, I was NOT suprised by this outcome in this experiment. But I somehow had the feeling I would jam the machine with an Ike. Oh well, nice try.

Oh, one final test I should try, that should work, is the Susan B. Anthony dollar, but that should work the same as any golden dollar series. Same size. Same weight. Same magnetic signature. Different metal composition.

Uhh..Why am I constantly spelling things wrong? The title of this topic SHOULD be "My local Walmart's self checkout machines do NOT "accept" IKES". Maybe its the fact that I try to type too fast, and the fact that these letters are mostlt worn off this keyboard, so I forget which letters are where. Please excuse that.

You shouldn't be surprised. Just be surprised the darn thing took halves. Now when is someone going to grow a set, and see if any self check-outs take double eagles or not?

well the pop machine at my work does not accept sba's but does accept prez the coin machine gives out prez and sba

the pop bottle machine wont accepte the prez but accepts the sba
so when i have a prez i have to put it in the can machine hit the return to get four quarters for the bottle one

oh and the post office coin changer only gives ou sba's

Well, this is all weid, because the PresBux and Sacs are supposed to have the same magnetic signature as the SBAs. The reason for this was, for the vending industry to avoid spending millions of dollars, programming in a "new" magnetic signature to accept the brass bux (Prez and Sac) and so that the brass and cupronickel (prez/sac/sba) coins would be universal, so I find that hard to believe, BUT I DO believe it, though.

That is very interesting. I am actually glad that (to my knowledge) the Treasury Department decided to keep the SBAs in circulation, as opposed to the idea of culling them from circulation and melting them down. Why waste perfectly good coins (even if sometimes confused for quarters bt some people) I like the SBA's design and if anything, cull all SBAs from circulation, plate with the same brass as the brass bux are made of, and realease the new "Golden Susies" back into circulation. ( I do remember at one time, that they were considering doing this, but only, plating the SBAs with 24 Karat gold, which would have been a waste, and also, the article did mention that, NO coin containing REAL GOLD would work in a vending machine. Maybe gold just doesn't have the right magnetic signature. )
