Thread: Question on the value on a Mercury set

I have Mercury set in ciec. condition that doesn't have the 16-d or 42 over 1 . What would be the value of a set like this ?? The set is from 1916 to 1945 , P, D & S.

Unfortunately, in low grade (avg circ) and without the 1916-D or the overdates, the value of the Merc set is essentially derived from melt on most coins and an extra $50-$100 for the 1921 and 1921-D.

Except you forgot about the '21 & '21-D as Tom mentioned above. Even in low grade, those two coins alone will pull in close to a hundred bucks on the 'Bay.

I recently saw an average set like the OP and the price was $350

if its a set then there may be a small premium over melt for the common ones because its almost a full set

I personally would take the 1921's out and sell them separately. The rest I would pay melt for, even in a complete set. That's just me, I'm sure someone out there would pay a premium for an almost complete set.

Are you forgetting the 1931 s,and d? or the 1930 s? or 1926s? Most of the better dates sell for more than melt.

Yeah, from what I've seen the Merc's under 2 million tend to get a premium over melt. There are 1930 s dimes on ebay going for decent amounts right now.

I had written about average circulated sets and these sets typically contain coins grading lower than full G4. Often, many or all of the better dates are FA2 or AG3. At that level of circulation, I have not encountered anyone who would pay a meaningful premium for these other dates.

i sold 76 coin set including '21 +'21-D for $267.25 on ebay

With the caveat that the coins are G4 or above, it is my opinion that several of the coins could be quite a bit above melt including the 16S, 21, 21D, 26S, 30S, 31D, and 31S.
