    1945 D Wheat Penny question

First off let me just say I'm new here and new to the hobby. Its very fun and addictive!! Click here to enlarge

    Now my question is....

I found a 1945 D wheat Penny that has an odd copper shinny luster to it and is magnetic. Is this rare or normal as I thought only 43's and possible 44's were steel?

I've searched the net with no luck. Any help would be much apreciated!

the color was what first brought my attention to it. My young daughters always help me go thru my coins and I was just showing her how a steel penny sticks to magnets but others dont... when she says yes they do it sticks to this one!

Well, it's uncirculated, but I dolnt know why it was magnetic. It could be struck on a 1943 planchet and some how plated, probably not though, others will chime in

Can you post a pic of the date, I may have a lead, also do you have a magnifier because you can take the pic through that

    pic with date

ok dont laugh at my photo skills..... I compared it to another 1945 and it looks the same. Any thoughts? If someone plated this penny would/could that be the reason it is magnetic?

    Thanks for the reply!

Not to doubt what you are saying, just trying to understand (I'm very new to all this). The PMD you are talking about is the date? or just overall coin condition.

Whoever or whatever it was plated with caused it to be magnetic?

    Thanks
