Thread: First timer

Well I tried to get some boxes of halves but none of the us banks in my area had any boxes, but was lucky enough to find one to order a box! Should be here next thur. In the mean time they gave me $250 in dimes that were rolled under the tellers counter. Check through them and found nothing. Figuring it's 2012 I don't expect to find anything but it's fun to hope! Going to try and do 1 or 2 boxes of halves a week.

Sadly I'm a duck... poor corvallis guy haha! Any thanks! Even though the 250 in dimes was nothing it was still fun unwrapping and hoping to see that silver edge! Hopefully one day lol. From what I've read it's more common to find a 40% half then anything else so that's what i'll order/try out for a few months and see how it goes!

I'm not much of a roll searcher but there are a ton of people here at CoinTalk that are. You'll be getting quite a bit of feedback from them. Responses to your question Re: buying silver, on the other thread you started, should be huge. Lots of folks here love that silver.

I've read of searchers on here going through 10-15 boxes of halves in a row without finding so much as a 40%. With nickels, you'll find at least one War nickel typically in every box but some go through 2-3 boxes without finding one. It is unusual to go through 2-3 boxes without finding one, though. I usually average 1-2 per box and just in the last few days I have found 3 after going through about 120 rolls of nickels. They're not worth as much as a 40 or 90 percent half but at least they can be more easily found and you can say that you've found some silver.

You're welcome. Depending on the size of your bank and how much merchant business they do, they may well have a box of nickels already available to be purchased from the vault. Personally, I have never had a bank order a box of coins for me and I have bought quite a few boxes of cents, nickels and quarters over the last year. I would just ask if they have a box of nickels available when you go to pick up your box of halves and see what they have to say.
