1 Ounce Silver Medal--Blank Planchett--ANACS MS-60 Details

Why on Earth would ANACS slab a blank 1 troy ounce round? If I sent in a sterling spoon, would they slab that?

I especially like that it's "MS-60 Details". I wonder if someone at ANACS decided to have a little joke.

In fact, I wonder if there's a population report...

ANACs is not the only one to slab blank planchets. You can go to northeast and see some large cent blank planchets graded by NGC.

Sure, I could see that if it's an identifiable coin planchet -- mint errors in slabs aren't surprising at all. But a 1-ounce silver blank is about as generic as you can get. In fact, I thought they were sold as blanks for later engraving.

I'm just surprised that a metal round, without any indication of what type of coin it was intended for (or even whether it was intended to be a coin at all), would get slabbed.
