You would have to post a good picture of the coin for anyone to help you out.

Very nice, I'm not into error coins, but that is "weird". There are plenty of people on here with tons of knowledge that will be able to help you out. I don't think it would hurt to get the reverse of the coin up here either, and hopefully when they wake up tomorrow, you'll get all the answers you're looking for!

Did the penny seem wider or larger than a normal penny?

This is not an error and doesn't add any premium... except apparently in your case. This is super common during that time period and I find hundreds of them when roll searching. I save none. The buyer must not really be an error collector or he'd probably know this. Good deal for you, but I wouldn't be suprised if the guy wants his $10 back later...

no it looked about the same size as a normal penny and thats why he asked me if i wanted to get rid of it because he said to him it seemed like a normal penny with a little error and he wanted to take it out my hands for walkin 30 blocks

I would find it extremely "weird" to have a 1984 penny that's dated 1986...

I find it even "weirder" to have a 1984 penny that's actually a 1986 cent.

I know I'm new and all, but compare the thickness of the top edge to the bottom edge. Isn't this an off-center strike with "In God We Trust" struck on the rolled edge? Or am I confused?
