I found something unusual on an Bi-Centenial Ike dollar, please explain.

After reading about the two different types of Ike dollars for the Bi-Centenial, I took a good look at my coins and found something unusual to me. The "R" in "Dollar" is different on two coins of the same date mint. The right leg of the "R" comes off at a different angle than the other. I'm hopping someone can explain this to me. I'm rather new to coin collecting. I've provided two pic for you to see what I'm talking about. Thanks!

I suppose its a VAM like in the Morgan dollar series. The Susan Anthony series has a similar variation.

Welcome to forum. The picture you posted are type one and type two. There is no 1975 IKE, but bicentennial coins was made in two years (1975 and 1976) and both year used different design. Here's link on more details on type one and two for IKE bicentennial coins...

You need to look again as the top coin is an Eagle Landing Reverse found on 1971-1974 and 1977-1978 while the coin underneath it is a Type 2 BiCentennial.

In a nutshell, the top coin is not a BiCentennial which means the coins are not of the same date.

 

Ah, good catch. I overlook the land on one of those coins.
