Provincal Roman ????
I received this coin a few years ago. I have yet to properly ID this one yet.
To me this rock looks like it may be a provincal of commodius or perhaps lucius verus. The reverse seems like Mars advancing right??? Any help would be most welcome. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse: and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. -
Looks more Greek to me. Head of Zeus.
I don't have any time at the moment but this link should point you in the right direction.
Regards,

Yessssss, the style matches. Pirate freebooters who worship Mars from 250 BC. Who could ask for more. I got a match on the obverse with the huge "Roman nose." Now I have a good place to start. Thanks Kurt.

Got it Kurt !!!! SGCV 1144 / BMC 110. Reverse - Mameptinon warrior advancing right. "The Children of Mars" Messana mint in Sicily. Obverse - Head of Zeus. Circa 232 -210 BC. You were right Greek Sicily.
Just took a new photo.

Ripley,
You are very welcome. Glad you found a match. I really like the rugged portrait of Zeus.

Good call Kurt. I was going to comment yesterday it looks more Greek, especially the obverse, but then that would have been just a blind opinion and no further help to the OP. THanks for helping.

-Kurt Yes Kurt the obverse is good, too bad the reverse is poor. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse: and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. Similar Threads -
