    BU 1924-D Lincoln Cent

Just got this off of eBay, really liked the color but a dealer friend thinks it might have been recolored at some point... The luster looks good in the picture so I figured it was worth a shot. The seller has a 14 day return policy so if it doesn't look right in hand I can send it back. I was hoping it would grade 64 red from pcgs, any thoughts?

I have no useful grading thoughts, but I REALLY like the look of the coin. The bowtie and hair just pops. Even if it is recolored, its still a nice piece to look at.

I see some spots coming in on the obverse from 1-3 o'clock but overall very nice, as for a grade MS-64 to MS-65 looks about right

Is that the color you see in hand? The light/white balance looks off to me. Still, look like very well struck 24D, no prob with 63/64! The one thing that always makes me scratch my head with a coin like this..... why isn't it already slabbed?

According to gray sheet it's a $1500 coin in 64 , but 10k in 65. Think the tpgs take that into consideration? Click here to enlarge

I'm afraid I know who that seller is. And I think the coin has been messed with. Or the images.

As BadThad says, why on earth would a problem-free coin in that grade, worth that much money, be raw? And sold for a song on ebay?

Have a look at it. Show us some images.

I see it in the completed auctions of gncoin. Are you saying that's another alias for Great Southern?

I will bet you have the wrong seller.

What scares me even more is that eBay has sold 8 coins all raw and nearly twins with that one in the last 6 weeks.

The seller was gncoin out of Illinois. I asked him if he ever sent it to pcgs, he said no because he thought it may have been recolored but wasn't sure. He had several other 24d Lincolns but this was the nicest looking one. Haven't received the coin yet but should have it in the next few days. I will try to take some better pictures then.

If you go to this sellers feedback and see what he's buying it'll raise some suspicions that he's a crackout artist. He buys a lot of slabbed problem coins. That and as a seller his feedback is private makes me think you'll be seeing a messed with coin.

I'd check Heritage too, you might find your coin recectly sold there.

I looked too quickly, lol. That seller raises major red flags if you look at his other coins for sale and buying history. Jez, check out this $400 polish job:
