Nice, I like the Sev. A more but the pius has some nice colors going on with it.
How'd they end up under a tarp for so long?

I think they were part of a shop's collection and the owner had passed away leaving the inventory to their family. Not sure if they just didn't know what to do with them or didn't want to part with them.

#2, this is the one I mentioned in #4. A coin that I don't think I will be able to do better than. Another coin I was very lucky, and very happy to get.
Claudius Æ As. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP, bare head left / LIBERTAS AVGVSTA S-C, Libertas standing facing, with pileus and extending left hand. RIC 113, Cohen 47, BMC 202 10.9 g
That is an extremely pretty coin Randy.I will be curious what you rated higher than this one.

ThanksThis was almost #1. I left out allot of nice coins I have, and strangely the only ones I've picked so far are AE.
No need to wait for anyone else to look, since it looks like you two are the only ones still enjoying this threadThanks for the comments btw
#1 This one has an awesome portrait, a nice weight, and good toning, but the main reason its #1 is it's sentimental. This one represents a handful (5) of coins I've received as gifts. Coins that I would never want to part with, that I couldn't replace. It seems that the most rare thing about ancients is receiving them as gift from friends and family.
Caracalla AR Antoninianus.
216 AD. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, radiate draped bust right, seen from behind / P M TR P XVIIII COS IIII P P, Serapis, modius on head, standing left, raising right hand & holding sceptre.
Size: 22.5mm Weight: 5.3 grams
RSC 349b. RIC 280b BMC 165. Hill (1964) 1573.

and a bonus fav, another pair of sentimental coins that each remind of my 2 dogs that passed.
Thanks for all the likes too everyone![]()
Nice portrait on the Caracalla. It seems his personality comes through on coins better than most.
Btw Randy I seriously disagree its only a few of us enjoying your thread. Always remember there are 10 times the number of people who are unregistered and read CT than registered members.

It's clear that there are many, many people enjoying this thread -- certainly those who follow it even if they don't specifically reply to any individual coin that's pictured. I've certainly enjoyed it -- both the coins as well as the thought that is behind the choice of each coin.
I would hope that others might want to start similar postings as well. Most collections are too extensive for the collector to show all of his/her coins, so listing the top ten or so "favorites" is a great way to learn about others' collections and the thinking that went into them.
