Yehud, before 333 BC, Silver Gerah, Hendin-1050

Yehud, before 333 BC, AR gerah of 7.9 mm, 0.46 grams. Obv: Helmeted head of Athena to rt. Rev: Owl stands to rt. head facing, small lilly above, full legend YHD on right. Hendin-1050.

Recent research has suggested that these early Persian Period Yehud coins were not only issued in Jerusalem, but meant to be used as part of payment of Temple tribute. Rather than being fractions of Greek denominations, which does not really work out mathematically, it is suggested that these are intended to be one 'gerah' or 1/24 of a shekel, which in the late Iron Age/Early Persian period weighed 11.33 grams. 11.33 divided by 24 = 0.47grams.

This was one of the saddest moments in European History, although it was good for the English.

    Nice.
It is still available but I'm not sure what it has to do with Judean coins.

Does that coin date to the 17th Century?

The market is very robust for Overton attributed bust halves, especially any R4 and up rarities. For this particular piece, there's probably only a handful available because of the R5 rarity. With the harsh cleaning, you could try to talk to seller down to close to $300.
