Thread: Coin thread that has nothing to do with CAC.

Okay, here is an argument-free thread: Please post what you like about any particular coin or series, and just do it because you like it. NO debates about grading, CAC, or anything else controversial. I am going to post a coin and say why I like it. Other members, please feel free to join. No arguments or debates please--just aesthetics.



Okay, I have always liked Franklin Halves. While some people don't like the obverse design, most like the Liberty Bell, and its overall symmetry and symbolism. This particular coin pleases me aesthetically, as it is nice and clean, with good luster, and attractive toning. Okay, my opinion and no conflict or debate--just fun.

My favorite coin is one that I do not yet own (hopefully someday). And I am not even sure whether it is the actual design, or just the appearance of this picture that I happened to find online (don't remember where I got it from). It's a 1794 Large Cent. I like the obverse design in general, the detail in the hair is pretty sweet. But what really appeals to me about this particular coin is the relief, roundness, and prominence of the cheek. Makes Lady Liberty look like a cute little gerbil with a bunch of food stuffed in there. Like I said, for all I know it may be an optical illusion produced by the method used to take this picture. I have not seen an extremely high grade example in person.

I recently began to focus my attention on these coins of Italy.

I really love the German Empire(1871-1918) coinage. The eagle designs are very intricate and usually very well struck. Just beautiful!









My favorite German eagle is the "Screaming Eagle" from the Germany Federal Republic (1949-1990).

My ALL TIME FAVORITEs...Lincoln Cent 1995 and Roosevelt Dime- Why? Because it was voted by Presidential Historian Society the two top presidents among 41 served in Oval Office. here's the Pic. Before I forgot My 1995 Doubled Denomination with Two Full dates 1995 Obverse,Two LIBERTY,2 IN GOD WE TRUST,P Mintmark,VDB & a Skull break,Crack die variety-Reverse Details, ONE CENT,ONE DIME,UNITED STATES of AMERICA, E PLU- FG Initial and a Lincoln Memorial building split in half with some Images of explosion at step,A crack die variety.- This is my ALL TIMES FAVORITE.-The two great leaders accidentally minted in US MINT, certified and graded at Baltimore Convention Center-Coin Show in Baltimore,Maryland. Year 2000,March. Mr Alan Hager of Accugrade called it 1995 Penny On Dime-ACG-MINT without any numerical number as MS##. I beleive that first one is an aluminum 2 mark from Weimer republic(1919-1933)?

I just posted this on another thread, and looking at the coin in my coin box reminded me of my first trip to Washington DC as a child, and visiting the Lincoln Memorial. It was awe inspiring for a 7 year old, and this coin reminds me of that visit.

Any Daniel Carr coin, whether it be a fantasy overstrike or an original design. The SLQ is one of my favorite designs, and the "trade dollar" appeals to me because of its simplistic beauty. I'll try to add reverse pics later. Here are two that I recently purchased:

My 1921 Peace Dollar - High Relief is one of the prettiest coins to me.

It's also a toss up with the SLQ 1917 Type 1 Reverse.

and the 1853 Rays and Arrows. Why did they discontinue after that year

Your photo captures quite well the strong cartwell effect present on the Lincoln dollar.

I wish I had enough money for a complete Seated Dollar set.

And I agree, arrows & rays are one of my favorite design elements.

I can't afford it either. This is probably as close as I'll get to a Gobrecht seated liberty dollar. Of course, it's a dime.
