Dr. Greg Pineda Collection, US Philippine Coins; Sold by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions

Did anyone else participate in this auction? The US Philippine coins went for a song! There were some strong prices realized for some of the better stuff but for the most part I think this auction was under-promoted and the prices realized reflect that. Most of the estimates were still blown out of the water though, i.e. Estimate $250-$600 sold for $1600 etc. I expected a lot of that but still think most coins sold for less than the current trends some by a lot. I had an original budget for around 5K but after I saw what they were selling for.... I maxed out my coin budget for a quite a while...

One of the two known 1907 (P) pesos sold for $165,000 plus buyers premium (15%)! On the low side of the $150,000 to $250,000 estimate.
There were also a decent amount of proof 67's that totally blew the estimate out some selling for 100% to 300% over the estimate. But, like I said above, I think a lot of the estimates were too low to begin with.

I won't be able to post pics for a while due to my travelling and the amount of material I purchased (over 87 individual coins) but I will post the better ones when I am able.

I looked at the catalog and thought about bidding on one or both of the MS65 1909-S 50 centavos... but ultimately decided not to since I didn't have a chance to view them beforehand. Any idea what those coins sold for?

I actually thought of you when I saw those two!
The toned one sold for $3,800 with a ridiculous estimate of $800-$1,500 and the non-toned example sold for $2,200 with an estimate of $600-$1,000 .
I was one of the underbidders for the first one, but apparently someone else wanted it more. Click here to enlarge

As i'm sure you know, that is a tuff coin to find!

Oh yeah, really tough one! I have one that's AU58 and toned, but PCGS put it in a details holder because it looks like a spot may have been removed. That's pretty much the best one I've been able to find w/o looking too hard.

Looks like those two sold pretty strong and I probably wouldn't have bid that high just based on the photos. I'm just relieved they didn't sell anywhere near the estimates because I would have been kicking myself in that case!!! Thanks for the info!

Do you know if CAC has stickered any Philippine coinage? They claim to sticker most anything listed in the red book (Minus the modern stuff) and have for me so-far, but I am thinking about sending some of my recent winnings in and seeing how they do. I guess I can call them later today of look it up their pop reports...

Edit: Nothing in the pop reports but they don't list tokens or colonials either and I know they sticker them.

I haven't seen any USPI coins with CAC stickers, so I would guess that they don't sticker them yet.

Here's the 50c that I have in my set right now... I bought it raw and submitted it to PCGS, but they didn't like the area right under the volcano and said that a spot was removed there... still the best one I've been able to get so far though and it's a pretty coin nevertheless:

I also suspect something is amiss under the volcano. That entire spot does not match the rest of the coin. Nevertheless, it's a really nice coin for the date!
