Thread: 1951 Jefferson Nickel Grade?

Hey all
i have a 1951 Jeff Nickel that believe is between F12 and VF20. I'm a 19 year old numismatist and i want to try to grade my own coins, and i use pcgs photograde to help. Am i in the ball park?

I don't see the reverse image. But from the obverse alone, I think that VF-30 is a good grade. It does have a scratch that is a distraction.

The 2001 looks to be AU-50. Most people say I am a strict grader, you may be tougher. That is a great way to learn, by practicing. I still grade every coin that I get in change as I look through them. Yesterday a cashier yelled at me "I gave you the rite change!" because I was looking into my hand for so long. I explained to her that I am a coin collector and she pulled out a red seal two dollar bill and asked if I wanted it for $2.00. Of course I took it.

Jeez thats pretty cool, i dont collect notes as much as i do coins, but if i got the chance i would.
I have one more coin that i think i need help with,because the value of it changes dramtically from MS60 to MS63.
Its my 1960 Jeff. My guess is XF40, but i could be off. Im just starting to get into grading my own coins, and learned about the high points of a few coins.

I'm having a hard time seeing if the 1960 is AU-55 or MS-63. The determining factor is going to be the luster. You may need to take out of the holder and hold it at an angle to the light and see if the high points on the coin has any breaks in luster. If it has any at all, it is an AU. If it does not, it is a MS. Grading is very subjective and I would not go off of my opinion alone to give you an accurate grade. The grades that I give are based on how I see the coin, many other people will give a different grade based on what they see. Neither would be wrong...strange isn't it.

it is! im hoping MS63, because between that an AU58 is a 10$ jump. not much, but pretty good for a dime

say, are the high points on the dime on the head for the obverse and the torches for the reverse? im assuming it is
