Zach, i think the best thing for you to do now is to get a lawyer and tell him all your issues.. We may not be able to help you here, all we can do is give you some words of encouragement.. and still the decision will be all laid in your hands.. I feel for you man.. but I think this is not the best place to talk about this.. sorry for that, but that will be the most appropriate thing I can say to you.. Click here to enlarge

I don't like this situation. It sounds to me like you need to put on the brakes and think about it a little more. Any time I hear about someone selling coins to create a short term fix, I have to wonder what the long term result will be. You can't control her job situation. If you sell a bunch of your collection in a rush (at possibly a loss) to cover her car this month, what will she do next month? Or 6 months from now? If she ends up losing the car 6 months from now anyway and you sold a bunch of your stuff so she could have it for one more month, I would think you're not going to be a happy camper.

I can't even get myself to sell coins to pay for other hobbies where I would benefit myself! lol I always find an excuse for why something can't be sold, like a hoarder. When stuff comes up, I pretty much treat it like the collection does not exist.
My other hobby is trying to keep enough cash and credit on hand so that I don't need to sell anything for whatever comes up. Some spend every last dime on their collection and then have to sell the moment a car repair comes up or they need a new appliance. I won't do it because I don't want to sell my 'real' money.

Good luck with this though. I believe you need to think longer term. Not just this month. We don't need to know but I'm left to wonder what the cause of the separation is about? She had a place to live. Did you initiate this and now you feel guilty? If she initiated it, I wouldn't sell a penny. Also, if she lets the bank know what's going on it may buy her some time, depending on the bank.

craigslist is the fastest way. you will just have to deal with lowballers trying to find a deal though. i sold about 23k retail for 20k in under two weeks.

I don't know if your divorce is final, or if a court has divided the property as you said (below), but if what you wrote is accurate and final in the courts, in my opinion, you owe her nothing. It sounds like she has already misappropriated and wasted a lot of money. She's a big girl now. Let her stand or fall on her own. Any obligation you may have had is over now. You have no guilt in the outcome. Keep your coins. If you give in on this, she'll just keep riding you until you, too, have nothing.

She's bouncing betwee grandma's house, & her aunts house until she gets a job (The 7th i hope) & manages to save enough to get a place to rent. The savings & checking account has been misappropriated (I had to put up the title to my boy's 4 wheeler to cover a $1500 check that should have more than 3x cleared). Rodeo, you are correct about too much information. But the bottom line is that the cash is gone (I'll be ok, I make decent money)& I want to make a gift of the proceeds of my collection. What would be a one stop shop to get some liquidity?

    Divorce sucks...been there.

I would say, keep your collection. Throwing money towards first & last month rent on an apartment for her is really stupid if she has no job. As for buying her a car for $1k, if you really thinks it would help her some then do it if you want to.

What happens to the current car (the challenger)? Are you going to keep it and make the payments? Is it going to get repo'ed or turned in? If you cosigned, you are responible also.

I just had another thought. She doesn't want to be with you, but still needs and wants your wallet? If this is the case, she's a (ab)user.
If you allow her to use you like that, well, enough said.

It's just as easy to say, then don't post it. We could go back and forth all day. The wise decision is, leave it off a "coin" forum that is actually public to the world.

Go to Walmarts and buy her a pair of big girl panties and send her on her way. She is not your issue, YOU and the KIDS are your issue.

Exactly. The logo at the top and the domain name of this site is CoinTalk, not PersonalIssuesINeedAdviceTalk. One should expect to read about coins here, not personal issues and drama. No pun towards the OP, just my opinion. I have no problems helping you out with the coin questions but I think the personal stuff, well, at least the details should be left off a forum like this.

I think the OP realizes this now (see post #24).

i just dont get the point of commenting on a post just to say "i dont like this post." its like tv. if you dont like whats on, change the channel. dont go out of your way to let everyone else know you dont like it. the guy needed advice, and he asked for it. if you dont have any for him regarding his questions, so be it. telling him "this isnt a dear abby column" seems uncalled for. like you said, this is a PUBLIC forum. OP is part of that public.
