    1969 India Proof sets

Click here to enlarge Hi everyone! I have these 2 Ghandi proof sets from India. But one of them is not sealed anymore, and is turning green.Click here to enlarge What is the good set worth, and is there enough silver in the coins to make the opened set worth anything? Thanks for any help. My father bought them for $15 each.

Worth in the vicinity of $150-180 at the moment (for the sealed set, depending on the condition of the coins). The unsealed (I'm assuming the platsic sheet is cut or torn open) one would bring in perhaps $100+ depending on your luck. The plastic covering I believe is PVC, so the coins do tend to turn green over time.

As for the silver content, the left side of the booklet should have an information sheet about the coins. Only the Rs 10 coin has 80% silver (12 grams asw). I bought mine for $15 too Click here to enlarge, but it is ugly and the inner plastic has become sticky for some reason.

    Jaytant,

How do you determine the value without a year ? Did they only make one year of Ghandi Proofs ?

Copper Queen's title states 1969 Proof Set, that is what I went off.

1969 had Gandhi on a proof coin. I can't think of the next one until this decade when he appeared on the Dandi March Proof Set. Maybe I missed some.

I believe this date is grossly undervalued. The potential demand is huge because of the Ghandi coins in it and the world-wide appeal. Many of these sets are damaged by the packaging and few are left intact without damaged coins. Soaking these in acetone doesn't restore them as well as many other sets but it will halt further damage.

India proof sets are extremely sought after right now. Can you post a picture of said set? I sold vairous years from 69-72 (as I recall) a couple of years ago for $100-$300 each, depending on the set. I was getting emails for months after that by people asking me if I had any more.
