Hello jlblond,

Your photos or coins in 2x2 holders are all nice. How do you position your lighting & what type of lighting is it? Any tips you could share are appreciated. (I always have to shoot at an angle to eliminate the glare from the plastic window).

Some of the blurry ones are scan. Most of the new pics are from a silk screening imaging device i turned into a camera stand. As far as lighting goes, I took several classes in college for stage lighting, I was in a electronic band at the time in the 90's, and I simply used the same concept for photographing coins. Plus I kinda cheat using a light meter. The same kind used on stage and in the movies.

Here's some pics of the device I used before I converted it to a camera stand. Found the strange device in my garage sometime back.

What I find interesting about those two is the different CoA arrangement on the obverses. The 25 Schilling coin shows the obverse that was in use between 1955 and 1964, with the shields of the nine states. The CoA on the 50 Schilling coin are those nine plus, at the top, the one with the federal eagle, used between 1964 and 1988. (Austria used a few obverse designs that were different from those two types.)

When the Austrian Mint became a corporation under the "roof" of the central bank (OeNB) in 1989, that had an effect on the obverses too: The higher denomination commems (500 schilling and above, 10 euro and above) then had two issue-specific sides. The others (50S 1996-2001, €5 2002-today) had the nine state shields again ...
