that would be what a PF 54 is, a diminished proof. Personally, I think that's waaay off base. It appears to be your average 1960 Proof Washington. Maybe a PF-65 or so. there also appears to be a dark brown toning spot ( a tiny dot) at 7 o'clock on the obverse.

All in all, it's a nice coin. Not the 1804 dollar, but it's a nice proof washer.

That is actually a spot on the plastic cover. When I get a better case I'll take it out and reshoot it.

I agree...I think it's an average 1960 Proof quarter. Not a bad coin at all. I don't see any cameo in it...but I would say it's probably a PF65 or so. I like it.

Also, Kittrell...welcome to CT. It's always nice to see other Oregonians here!

Perhaps Mr. Ricky missed the '6'?

As said before it appears to be your average proof, probably a 64/5, I'd see it selling at $6-7.

a proof coin can be worn from circulation just like any other coin and since proof is a method of manufacture not a condition a proof coin will always be graded PF-XX. So a PF-54 (if there was a 54, probably meant 55) is a proof coin which shows the wear of an AU-55 coin. These are also referred to as diminished proofs.

I call them "impared proofs". I've found a couple proof Lincolns in circulation, one a PF50 and another nice one about PF65.

Very similar. Same scale. But once a Proof always a Proof. So a Proof coin that has been circulated lightly might grade PF-55 and one that circulated even more might grade PF-45.

My question now: Would you be able to tell a PF8 from a VG-8?

Finally got an air-tite for it. Unfortunately the spots are on the coin.

I have one just like it, from the junk silver bin. $5.35, and no visible hairlines/fingerprints/discoloration or nicks!
