B-17 Flying Fortress- one of the most famous.
she came back so shot up-, that one of her wheels were broken off, bits of her wing came off, and she still made it home.

My Dad served in World War II, and I'm sure there are plenty of others on these forums who had family/relatives who also served in Europe or the Pacific. Dad was 82 when he passed in 1997, and at that time WWII Vets were dying at the rate of 1000 per day. In another 10-20 years, there probably won't be a single WWII Vet left. So, it's up to those of us whose parents and relatives lived during that era to keep the home fires burning.

Welcome to the forum! Nice to have more YN's around here. On the subject of Memphis Belle, A WWII plane exhibit at my local airport was here recently. There was a B17, A P51 Mustang, and the only flying B24 Liberator still flying in the world. You were allowed to get in them and walk around move the guns, etc. They were selling flights in them for $400 per person, so we passed on those.
