Die crack on Texas Quarters

I was searching thru a roll today.

I found eleven strong die cracks. Two of which have a semi circular type crack. The crack is on the obverse. It runs frum the U in quarter to the bust... twoout of elevem the crack pops back out of the bust at about the O in dollar, and runs to the rim.

I checked ebay and sure enuff someone else founf the same die crack.

Here is a link to the ebay picture.

Die cracks are an interesting study of numismatics. While a pretty common event, it can be interesting way to learn the die making and striking process. It can also lead you into the variety study of coins.

[QUOTE=Da Vinchi]I was searching thru a roll today.

I looked thru 100 P Quarters and found 4....

So far only the P mint dies are affected, so I guess the Hub is OK.

dta116 Noticed your from Midland as well. Is there any coin clubs around here?
Also Noticed you said P mint, are you ordering from the Mint or do you have a source local to get P mint coins.

The hub has nothing to do with die cracks. Die cracks are the result of an individual die getting worn out to the point that it begins to break apart. The first sign is cracks forming in the die or die chips.
