what do you do with so much info ???????

this post is not to point or hurt any one in any way but i would like to know with the net and so much info out there how is it that so many never even check things out
i did have (SOMETHING) up for sale here and yes it was not the place for it but i did try to ask for help and did not get anything
so i did try yes maybe wrong but
i did look into this first and went right to the usda web site and asked them about the selling of these and this is what i got back
Thank you for contacting our website.

All States have had EBT systems since 2004. In 2008, Congress passed a law which gave all customers one additional year to use up any remaining paper coupons that they might still have, As of June 17, 2009 clients were no longer allowed to use coupons. Retail stores had until July 17, 2009 to redeem them at their banks.

As of those dates, paper coupons were de-obligated, which means that the Federal government no longer funds them. They are no longer accepted as payment for food at retail stores. Any issues you may have with E-Bay regarding the sale of your de-obligated paper coupons should be resolved directly with E-Bay.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

    Sincerely,

    BRD-HQ - Webmaster
    "BRDHQ-WEB" <BRDHQ-WEB@fns.usda.gov"
but here too so many dont care or just don't want to take the time to check things out
and they say know what they are talking about
    but do they ????
or is it too much info ???

Sorry, but what is your question? I agree with you on this - with research easier than ever many people don't do any research whatsoever before posting a question here.

By the way, with 10 posts now you can list items for sale in the Open Forum.

Flatinman, perhaps you are referring to me when I questioned if they were Ok to sell as eBay had refused to allow it .You were referred to the classified when you had the number of posts. The thread was closed because offers/advertising are not allowed except in classifieds. If you are asking why I didn't look up whether they were able to be sold, you did just fine.

Are you asking why the people on this site didn't search out your information for you and tell you the answer?

no i did the search and did know the answer but it was said "I will close this thread due to sell offer. Also last I heard a short time ago it is a federal crime to sell or resell food stamps. If it was eliminated, they could be offered, otherwise no. Do an internet search.

    Welcome to the forum!

Floirdatinman, If you feel you were disrespected, I apologize as that was not my intention. However, I do not feel that anything I said was out of order. The subject of your food stamps falls under exonumia, as you may know, since it was basically obligated script and not coins or paper money. CoinTalk has no specific subforum for it, but people have discussed WW2 gas, butter, etc. exonumia before as general discussion. This forum isn't like some of the other "Answerman" forums where the main drive is to give an answer, This is more to help people educate and find answers themselves, which you did.

Now that you mention the failure to do basic research, perhaps you should have done so and not listed things for sale in the wrong place. It is also pretty easy to find out that you cannot post in the classified section until you have 10 posts. Pot meet kettle...

Your thread wasn't closed due to the legal/illegal issue (which you have shown is legal). The thread was closed because you can't buy/sell in the main forums (and you didn't have enough posts to buy/sell). I would give the site a second chance, in the long run it will make up for this small issue in the information you will be able to learn.

    Welcome again

I have been waging this battle with Ebay since 2009 when it was no longer illegal to possess or sell USDA food stamps. At one time they received correct information that this was illegal. They have not bothered to update their information from their source at USDA. Ebay continues to pull down auctions for unused food stamps.

Desertgem, I disagree with your assertion that USDA food coupons belong to exonumia and not paper money. You also make the same assertion about scrip. In 20+ years of collecting both food stamps and Depression Scrip I can tell you that those who actively collect these items consider them paper money, most notably Neil Shafer the author of the Standard Catalog of Depression Scrip and the author of numerous articles in Bank Note Reporter on both of these subjects considers them paper money.

I agree, and will add that the CoinTalk forum is loaded with collectors and enthusiasts eager to answer questions, give educated opinions, post scans/photos, and share experiences and information concerning the entire gamut of paper money and related collectibles. I'm quite new here, and have felt welcome from the get-go....hang around floridatinman, and welcome to the forum.

I have no problems with what people consider it, they have a right to call it what they like. I respectfully decline the definition of such script as "paper money" in the common numismatic definitions. I do acknowledge that the definition of exonumia has been expanding and thus becoming more fuzzy, and language is constantly evolving. IMO.
