Newbie here

Hi guys,
I've been lurking on the board for awhile and figured there seemed to be a lot of knowledgeable posters to help in my new hobbie. I starting collecting as a kid, nothing big really, and have recently been bitten by the coin bug. I mainly collect Peace dollars and what every strikes my fancy. I have a lot of odd stuff and really got into it again when the state quarters came out. I realize it won't be worth much but it would be something neat to pass on to a grandchild. I figure that since I'm getting married soon I have to act quickly before the soon to be old lady will have a legit reason to whine about one of my many hobbies. I recently have have been making a few purchases every month from a local dealer with my coin "allowance" and was wondering if there were any sites via the internet that were not scams. I know better than to stay away from the main shopping networks and what not. I have been reading a lot and trying to increase my knowledge on the hobbie, hopefully joining the board will also help. I'm thinking of starting a new series and thinking of starting a half dollar collection, maybe Kens or Franklins. Look forward to meeting you guys and learning a bit.

Hello, and Welcome to the list. You can't go wrong with Peace Dollars. I think they're vastly undervalued and you can snag a couple, the 1927 & 1927-S which have a total mintage under 1,000,000 very easily.

Welcome. There are lots of online dealer that are totally legit and plenty of collectors on sites like this that sell and trade. The best deals are on eBay but you need to be careful. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Welcome to Cointalk.

I found a post by GDJMSP that had links to reputable coin dealers that I checked out and they're prices seemed more then fair in my opinion. I just can't remember where I found it, to tell you where to look, but it's HERE.

It's right - HERE - Walter. Any time you need a link, just look in the Numismatic Resources section
